The European Amateur Chess Championships 2014 are held from 26 August to 2 September, together with the 1st International Open "Eretria 2014", in the conference center of the 4-star “Eretria Village” Hotel, near the ancient city of Eretria on the island of Evia, 95 km north of Athens airport.
A total of 50 players from 12 countries are competing: Albania, Belgium, Cyprus, England, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, Slovakia and Turkey.
Entitled to participate are players from the European national chess federations who have a FIDE rating under 2000 at the start of the event and have had such a rating for at least 2 years prior to 1 January 2014. They must not hold any title above CM (WCM).
The tournament is a FIDE rated Swiss system in 9 rounds. Time limit per player: 90 min (40 moves) + 30 min + 30” increment from the first move.
The winner of the Men (Open) section receives the title of ”European Amateur Chess Champion 2014” and the winner of the Women section the title of ”European Women Amateur Chess Champion 2014”.
The top 3 players of the Men (Open) section and the top 3 players of the Women section earn the
personal right to participate with free accomodation and full board in the FIDE World Amateur Chess
Championships 2015, as long as they fulfill the participation requirements of FIDE regulations.
The total prize fund is 3.000 euros with 1st place winning 1.000 euros and also other prizes for general and women standings. First round starts on 26 August at 16:30 and the last (9th) round on 2 September at 10:00.
